Sweetwater brimming with energy plans:
City officials excited about proposal for Tenaska power plant

February 20, 2008 – The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce is going to have to get busy cranking out new slogans.

The city already boasts The World's Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up and touts itself as the Wind Energy Capital. And, of course, it's an All-America City, as advertised on the chamber's Web site.

And now a unique coal-fueled power plant that will capture 90 percent of the carbon dioxide it produces is a possibility. The captured carbon dioxide would not only stay out of the atmosphere, it also would be sold for use in enhancing oil production in the Permian Basin.

As Greg Wortham, Sweetwater's mayor, put it, the new plant would feature "the world's best way to use coal," which might not be a bad slogan...
