Tenaska Vice President Testifies Before Texas Senate Committee
July 8, 2008
At the invitation of Texas Senator Kip Averitt, (R-Waco), Tenaska’s Vice President of Environmental Affairs Greg Kunkel testified about the Tenaska Trailblazer Energy Center before the Senate Natural Resources Committee today. The committee was holding hearings about current and future emission control technologies, federal and state emissions requirements, and carbon capture.
In his testimony, Dr. Kunkel discussed Tenaska’s evaluation process for determining which clean coal technologies to develop and the best location for such a technologically advanced plant. The committee was interested in how the current federal and state regulatory environments impact private development of clean coal technology.
Dr. Kunkel explained that the technology for capturing and storing carbon dioxide exists and is available today, but uncertainty in Congress and in federal regulations can slow industry progress in developing clean coal technologies. When climate change legislation passes, Tenaska plans to be ahead of the curve with the Trailblazer Energy Center already well into development.
You can listen to an audio archive of Dr. Kunkel’s testimony at this Web site. To listen to the testimony, click on, “July 8, 2008 - Road Mtg. in The Woodlands”. Dr. Kunkel’s panel begins three hours and 48 minutes into the hearing.

Tenaska Sees Positive Responses to CO2 Open Season
July 2, 2008
Interested oil producers are already responding positively to Tenaska’s open season (request for bids) for the carbon dioxide (CO2) produced and captured by the Trailblazer Energy Center. This response indicates that a good potential market for CO2 exists in the Permian Basin.
